Canyons and Chefs is a Colorado-based culinary and adventure company bringing private chef experiences to Boulder, the Front Range, and the mountain communities beyond. We bring your private restaurant to you, wherever your group is gathering, with menus built around the seasonal ingredients and indigenous and pioneer culinary traditions of the mountain west.
Every detail is shaped around your occasion, your preferences, and your group. You show up. We handle the rest. That is the standard we have maintained across nearly 200 five-star reviews, and it is the experience we will bring to your table.
Our most frequently requested service. We design a multi-course menu around your preferences, source the ingredients, prepare everything in your kitchen, and serve your group from the first course to the last. For anyone considering a private chef for a dinner party in Boulder, whether the occasion is a weeknight gathering or a milestone worth celebrating, your home becomes the restaurant for the evening.
A private chef dinner gives a bachelor or bachelorette group something more substantial than a restaurant reservation. We build a custom menu around the tastes of your group, take the planning and logistics entirely off the host, and create an evening at the table that becomes one of the standout memories of the celebration.
We work primarily with small weddings and elopements, most commonly serving groups of around fifteen guests. These occasions call for genuine personal attention, from menu design through service, and that is what we bring. A gathering this size deserves more than a standard venue package, and that is exactly the kind of event we are set up to serve well.
For corporate teams, yoga and wellness groups, women’s and men’s retreats, and professional gatherings throughout the Boulder area, we provide private chef catering across a single evening or multiple days. Menus are built to fit the rhythm and purpose of your retreat, using seasonal ingredients and the same regionally rooted culinary approach we bring to every engagement.
Many of our Boulder-area clients are staying in vacation rentals, mountain homes, or properties outside the city, and want to eat as well as their setting deserves. We come to your rental, cook for your group, and handle the cleanup. You never need to leave the property for a genuinely excellent meal.
For guests who want to take their Boulder experience into the landscape itself, our adventure dining experiences bring chef-prepared meals into the outdoors in a way that no standard private chef service offers. This is one of the aspects of what we do that is entirely our own.
For outdoor events and larger celebrations, we offer live-fire and wood-fired event catering for groups of twenty-five guests and above. If you are looking for a barbecue chef for hire in Boulder who brings the same culinary depth and ingredient-led approach to an open-fire setting as we do to our private chef work, this is that service.
Our clients value experience over convenience. They are not looking for the fastest path to a meal. They are looking for a gathering that reflects the care and intentionality they bring to things that actually matter to them.
Boulder tends to attract exactly that kind of person. It is a community drawn to quality and substance in most things, food included, and our clients reflect that. They are professionals, families, couples, and groups who see a well-considered dining experience as worth the investment, and who have found that standard options rarely rise to the level of care and personalization they are genuinely after.
If you also spend meaningful time in this landscape and want your most memorable meals to happen inside it rather than alongside it, our adventure dining experiences are worth exploring as part of what we offer.
Our service is built around specific occasions rather than routine. If you are unsure whether your gathering fits what we do, reach out and ask. We would rather have a brief conversation than have you wonder.
Before anyone arrives, the logistics of the evening have already been handled. There is no reservation to secure, no traffic to time, no dress code to navigate, and no one in your group calculating how many drinks they can have before the drive home. The full attention of our team is on your table, for the full duration of your gathering, with nothing competing for it.
The person in your group who usually manages the shopping, the cooking, the timing, and the cleanup gets to do none of those things. They get to sit at the table and be a guest. For many of our clients, that shift alone is what they remember most.
The food is built around the seasonal ingredients and culinary traditions of the mountain west. What that means at the table is a menu that feels specific to where you are and to your group, not something pulled from a standard rotation. Dietary preferences and needs across your entire guest list are considered and worked into the menu from the start, not accommodated as an afterthought.
What stays with people after the evening is over is rarely just the quality of the food. It is the feeling that the whole experience, the gathering, the meal, the time at the table, belonged entirely to them.
In Billy’s words, “success for our clients means having a unique and memorable experience where all they have to do is show up.”
Getting started is straightforward. Here is how it works.
Reach out through our contact page with your occasion, date, group size, location, and any preferences or dietary considerations your guests have. The more context you share at the start, the more precisely we can shape what follows.
We develop a personalized menu concept around your occasion, your group, and the seasonal ingredients available at the time of your event. From there we confirm logistics together, including timing, setup, and anything specific to your location, whether that is a private home, a vacation rental, or another venue in the Boulder area.
On the day of your event, your in-home chef arrives with everything needed to execute the menu. Ingredients are sourced and prepped in advance. Setup is handled quietly and without disrupting your space or your guests before the evening begins.
Our team manages the kitchen and the service from the first course through the last. When the evening is over, we handle the cleanup before leaving. Your only job throughout is to be present.
Canyons and Chefs did not begin as a business concept. In 2016, after completing culinary school and years working in restaurant kitchens, Billy Woods founded a geology-focused guided hiking outfitter, running it alongside a private chef firm for nearly three years. Clients on adventure trips kept gravitating toward the food.
Private dining clients kept asking about the landscape. By 2019, merging both companies was not a strategic decision so much as an acknowledgment of what was already happening.
Our culinary identity is drawn from the indigenous and pioneer traditions of the desert and mountain west: the way people cooked in this landscape across the 17th and 18th centuries, before French-influenced fine dining became the default standard. Seasonal ingredients and a contemporary approach bring them forward.
As Billy puts it, “I’m driven by indigenous and pioneer cultures and love celebrating desert and mountain cuisine. Our menus are rooted in those traditions with a modern spin.”
Most private chef platforms connect you with someone you have not met, from a roster you did not choose, with no particular culinary identity tying the experience together. When you work with Canyons and Chefs, you are engaging a named team, led by a specific founder, with a clear culinary philosophy and a track record built in this landscape.
Nearly 200 five-star reviews reflect that track record, earned through consistent performance across private dinners, celebrations, retreats, and events. Our private chef services across Colorado extend well beyond Boulder, but this community is our home base.
That geology background shapes what we can offer that no standard private chef company can. Our adventure dining experiences bring fine food into the landscape itself, guided by the earth science knowledge that first drew Billy’s private dining clients to ask about the scenery around them.
In Billy’s words: “There are a lot of private chefs and a lot of guide outfitters out there, but very few do what we do. Our entire concept sets us apart.”
